The sign edges look rather jagged, but other than that, it looks great; especially the mushrooms!

I like the sign boards.  You could try stylizing the post a bit.  Even rotating it a little bit to the right might help make it not seem soo straight up and down.  The mushrooms are cute.

@angelwitch How cute!  The sign is jagged, so maybe cutting into the flat surface of the board more would help support the damaged edges.  Just some cracks here and there can really go a long way.  The ground underneath is a bit bare, so maybe some tall grasses or other things to help flesh it out and feel full, if that makes sense.  Other than that, good effort!

@notcastanza Thanks Ben Reichel. Just updated and playing with the post. Spent so much time trying to make the text carving work with cuts in the boards I forgot about the post. Will try to make it better before the texture class.

@silentheart00 Thanks, I took the cuts out of the boards because I couldn’t figure out how to make the text carvings made using booleans work with them. The word Welcome hasn’t been carved yet because I’m still trying to figure it out.  Any suggestions? Also working on vines and grass, just wanted to get the sign turned in as I do everything at the last minute.

Welcome to the class @angelwitch! I really like your take on sign model; a very unique theme. I’ve got some notes to offer:

• Shapes feel flat. I think some of it is the lighting + camera placement, but right now the sign and sign post feels nearly 2-dimensional. It doesn’t have to feel that way even if the camera and lighting remains the same. Significant bevels on the boards would help a lot, as would noticeable dents and dings.
• The broken pieces tell a different story. The damage level on the planks goes from seemingly no damage to extreme damage quickly. The middle board especially has a nasty break on the end. It gives me an ominous impression that an animal took a bite out (beware of danger) or a violent event occurred near the sign to damage it. The point being that the break feels out of place next to the elegant and dainty sign font and relatively undamaged remainder of the signs.
• The text is too perfect. I think the text would be far more believable if it were carved or painted on to the sign planks. Currently it’s way too perfect to fit with the broken planks. Carving it into the planks would be a bit more complex perhaps. But I recommend at least painting it into the texture with a worn and weathered appearance.
• The ground mound draws too much attention. To me the ground mound is larger than it needs to be, especially if it’s not going to have more detail. In my example I kept it small enough for the the grass to distract from the plain ground texture. In this case I fear a simple ground texture will be too noticeable at the scale. I recommend either shrinking it so the sign takes most of the focus or add some grass blades/clusters.

Gradewise it’s a B from me this week. I see a lot of potential with the project, so keep going at it! 👍

@angelwitch So sorry for the late reply; my week has been crazy busy.  For your questions, I don’t have much experience with carving words into a model.  I guess it depends on how you want the words.  If the words are painted on, then I would just leave that for the texture map.  If you want actual geometry, then maybe try googling around for some help.  Sorry I couldn’t help more.
