At what point is a question too dumb to ask here?

It’s honestly been a while since I’ve tried to absorb information in at this pace, and honestly I feel a bit humiliated that I’m already having a hard time trying to understand some things in these videos, and sometimes I forget things. In the subdivide tool video I asked “Why does Quad/Tri mode divide those squares outside of the selection instead of inside of it?” Maybe I missed something, maybe I was so confused by this something didn’t click, but I asked the question on Tuesday and it’s Sunday now. I’ve only seen one question that got ignored and that was someone insulting the audio quality. So maybe my question was a bit off topic, or maybe it was ignored because I missed something that should have been obvious? So I gotta ask, what are the general guidelines for submitting a question? Did I screw up, or has it just not been seen yet? Sorry if I’m being impatient…

I would say most questions are answered here, but it has occured that I didn’t get any reply’s on my thread. It happens sometimes. I think you can avoid it by keeping it short and asking a clear question.

I’d go with “It hasn’t been seen yet”, since the staff at CGC doesn’t seem like the type of guys that would title any question as “too dumb”.

If you don’t know something, go ahead and ask, that’s what the process of learning involves and that is what this site is mostly about.

If you can link the video with your question, maybe someone else can reply to it. Like I said, I don’t think they ignore questions on purpose.

You also have to take into account, there aren’t very many full time CGC instructors, and there are A LOT of members. So sometimes it takes them a while to get around to all the questions. This (the community thread) is a good place to ask questions too. None of the instructors would see a question and just brush it off, they are all awesome and super willing to help! So are a lot of the members! Like elensanima said, you can link to the video or the course you’re asking about and I’m sure someone will help you out!

Hey Richard, the only wasteful questions are those that someone can type into Google and the answer shows up on the first page. 

Yours was not a dumb question! How quickly questions get answered depends on the author of the course, since they’re the ones to get notified. Jonathan Williamson isn’t an instructor any longer (it’s just me, Kent, and sometimes Wayne on the Blender side) and gets a ton of notifications, so it’s likely that yours just hasn’t been seen yet. 

We’re hoping to improve the way questions are seen and answered in the future, but for now feel free to @ mention me in a comment in the question or re-post to the Community if you don’t find an answer.

@tbrbn That’s something we’ll consider in the future, but there’s a few things that we need to improve first. If we do eventually add mods, I’d bet that you’ll be on the list 🙂
