at about 12:45 you show the use of the loop selection tool by holding ALT and clicking with the RMB. This somehow doesn’t work for me – it just doesn’t select anything. SHIFT+ALT+RMB works fine (and always did) – what am I doing wrong?

Yes, that did it – the ALT+RMB was used by Linux. Thanks for the hint!
