I have a TON of vertex groups right now and I’m wondering if there’s a way to hide vertex groups? Or maybe to make vertex group… groups? I just want a way to access a small bundle of vertex groups without having to scroll up and down a huge list.

        HI Tyler,

That would indeed be great, but as far as I know, there is very little organizing you can do with Vertex Groups at the moment…just change their order, by manually moving a Vertex Group up or down in the list (can’t even drag and drop them) or put them in alphabetical order..

But…there are Addons, this for instance might be what you are looking for: https://blendermarket.com/products/vertex-group-collections

There are more and I haven’t used any, but from the description this looks very promising.

Yeah that area of Blender is one of those that has needed an overhaul for a long time. There is an extra one or two that come to my mind that also need some love, but whoever knows coding being able to do it themselves is one of those things that makes Blender cool.

This is one of those areas where having a naming convention is very helpful. You can limited the vertex groups that you see by clicking the expand arrow at the bottom of the vertex group list. This will show the search box and 3 icons(The double arrows hides vertex groups that match the search. AZ organizes the groups in alphabetical order. The arrow is used to reverse the order) Then in the search box type a few letters or name of the vertex group(s) you want listed. For example if you type T and you have 3 groups named MyTest, Test, and Group. then Group would be the only one not shown. If you click the double arrows then Group would be the only one to show. Hope this helps.

              Thanks a lot Dwayne!

I had completely forgotten about that search box.

Yeah, @spikeyxxx I use this more for material slots and shape keys, but it’s a feature in most of the boxed groups like this. I was surprised it’s not in the bone collections.
