I’m using version 2.91 and it seems to me that Alt+S doesn’t work for scaling along normals? I had to use “extrude along normals”. Am I doing something wrong?

Alt+S appears to work the same in 2.91 for me. Can you share a screenshot? I’m not sure how extruding along normals would give the expected result of scaling along normals.

I also had a problem with Alt + S (in 2.91). Maybe my experience will help someone.

          1. Make sure you select and extrude the CrateLatch (and not the CrateBody underneath).

          2. After E, press immediately  the left click (not CTRL+Z  –  it was my mistake, after which Alt + S did not work), and then Alt + S.

I had the same issue, but I found the answer through experimenting. It seems that (at  least on my computer, running 2.93) you can’t hit E to extrude and then left click to place the extrusion there. On my PC it cancels the extrusion (I wonder, is this a setting possibly?) so that when I went to alt-S it just scaled up the faces and didn’t make it look solid.

Instead, I hit E to extrude and then right clicked to place it down (edit: escape works as well). Then alt-S worked perfectly and I was able to replicate the proper modification.

ALT + S should work the same in 2.92 and 2.93 as previous versions.

E to extrude then left click (confirm) does work in 2.93. ALT + S without the E (extrusion) first will scale the faces as you mentioned.

Another tip when using ALT + S, After pressing ALT + S and moving the mouse press S to toggle Even Thickness ON/OFF.

                Hey Adrian!

Alt-S worked fine, it was the e to extrude and then left clicking that didn’t seem to work at all. Only right clicking did the trick. That said, trying it just now on a default cube worked with the extrude and left click… so I don’t know what the heck was going on last night when I was doing it on the crate and it just wouldn’t work.

Probably something easily explainable by someone with more Blender knowledge/experience than I!
