      Hey guys,

I am new here and loving the site. I am watching the “intro to shading” course and I was hoping to learn about the principle shader but the course is teaching the old ways of doing shading. Did anyone here tried to do the videos of the metallic ball with the new shader? if yes, can you share a picture of the nodes please?

      Thanks in advance 🙂

I don’t have any screenshots but Andrew Price explains it fairly well, hope this helps 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H5W6C_Mbck

Hey Maher, there aren’t really old and new ways of doing shading. The principled shader could be used to shade the gizmo ball by itself but doing so would not be teaching how to mix and organize nodes – something you’ll need to know to use Cycles to its fullest.

But if you have any questions about the principled shader, don’t hesitate to ask us here! I cover how to use it in conjunction with PBR textures here: https://cgcookie.com/lesson/using-the-principled-shader
