I haven’t rewatched the tutoorial, so I don’t know how Jonathan did this part, but I think you don’t want the wings to Shrinkwrap to the Body, so that Vertex Group should be excluded from the Modifier:
The way you had it set up, only the Wings were Shrinkwrapped to the Body.
