    Made some nicer bolts:

Also managed to reduce the number of Vertices from almost 800.000 to around 500.000.

    This came with a cost!

Here’s the thing: I removed the Mirror Modifiers and made linked copies (ALT+D) and mirrored them over to the other side (S, X, -1). The amount of Vertices did not change!

    Now look at this:

I made a linked copy of a subdivided Cube, with the Subsurf Modifier applied. The number of Vertices stays the same.

But when I made a linked copy when the Modifier wasn’t applied, the amount of Vertices doubled:

It sort of makes sense, that linked copies can have different Modifiers (or does it?), but then I would expect 188 Vertices, because the ‘base’ vertices wouldn’t be ‘doubled’.

So I tried this with my Axle file and as you can see above the number of verts was reduced drastically.

But my file size went from 23 to 72 MB!

It gets worse; the render time went from 4:42 min to 6:06 min. Just to be clear: the version with less geometry but more memory took longer to render!!!

@theluthier or anyone, do you know what is going on?

I do not understand this at all, but decided to revert to the version with the Subsurf Modifiers and the linked copies. Seems like the best option…
