In form and function would it not be better to compare Inset Faces to Loop Cut and Slide, after all isn’t the extrusion aspect a secondary operation performed after inset?

Thank you Jonathan. After I posted the question I took a look at the python code for this area of the tool shelf. It would appear that all of those functions are closely related.
