          Homework Submission – Week 1 – Crate

          @theluthier

          Here is my blockout of the crate. All the pieces are there. Cracks and blemishes are still missing. I added tha last planks and redone alot of the existing planks, because i overdid it with bevel and the facecount got quite high

              @amblender Considering the shading of the object, check if your normal are pointing in the right direction.

              Check the Face Orientation box to see your object normal orientation

              the red mean it is pointing in the wrong direction, blue means okay 🙂

                    @amblender Just a quick reminder. We still need a name for our team? What’s your vote?

                    [Note: I know that one of the proposals is from you. It’s just for having your final vote]

                      I had the same idea and started checking them this morning

                        Finally setup the camera and corrected the normals. Now everything is a nice blue

                          I started to age the crate and give him his lovely character

                            Excellent work for week 1 @amblender! Are you the one who had the idea to add shelves in the crate? Ingmar told me and it was a resounding YES in my modeler soul. Brilliant way to introduce function while remaining true to the art. You get full points from me this week 👍

                            I saw below that you’re starting to add wood grain details into the model. Maybe wait for the stream tomorrow to see how sculpting works with assets like these 🙂

                              @theluthier Yes, the idea with the compartments is from @amblender here 👍!

                                Question: @createtaiwan and @duerer

                                During Kent Stream i realised i only use a few different forms of planks. And for the sculpting porsion it would be easier to only have to sculpt those few planks.

                                1) should i just use linking the object data between the similar planks?

                                2) @createtaiwan  You use 4 modeled pieces to put together your fence. Is that a method i could use or something similar?

                                  @amblender I would use the method of repeating a very small set of basic elements that Kent @theluthiers proposes here (scroll down to the orange frame) for the construction of the fence. It’s also the method that Kent applies here in his “Treasure Chest” course: Reusing duplicated planks rotated upside down or backside to the front helps to reduce the work significantly. And who can tell that you reused a plank from the crate part visible in the artwork on in a hidden place 😉?
