The problem with doing the CTRL was that it wasn’t removing it from the active group. So the bit where you’d remove the darker blue so it would remove it from the active group wouldn’t work.. . it would just stay dark blue and not turn black. 😀
To make this easier, I figured out how to duplicate the “Paint” brush and set the mix mode for that one to subtract and labeled both so I knew which one was which 😀
