    Hi Neo,

    You might think that it would be better to add a floor constraint to stop the feet going through the floor, but there is a much easier way.

    It’s called “The Animator”.
    If they can’t put the feet on the floor, that is 100% on them – not you as the rigger.
    But let’s imagine for a second you did add a floor constraint on the feet of your character, and then you wanted to animated the character walking down the stairs.
    You would have your 2 feet controls + 2 floor controls to animate.  Which is more work in the end.
    So you might think your are doing the animator a favour, but really it’s easier to keep it free on open.

    Where it is useful though is mechanical rigging.  In the OFF-ROAD course, there are special floor constraints on the tyres of the RC Car.  This is because the ‘feet’ of the ‘character’ should follow along with the main body of the car (not so in a normal character).  

    In that course you will set up a system that uses controllable floor constraints and a shrink wrap constraint so the wheels always stay where you want them and making it easier for the animator (not harder)
