If you are sculpting using a pressure-sensitive pen, you may be missing the mouse middle button. And without that, you can’t navigate the scene.
Solution: Press Ctrl+Alt+U to go to the user preferences, and under the Input tab set a checkmark at “Emulate 3 Button Mouse”.
Now you can navigate with the pen simply by holding down the Alt key.
