When I want to trouble shoot something like this, I just open the same scene on previous Blender versions, say 4.2 and 4.1. If it opens and doesn’t have that weird thing, then it’s a bug on Blender 4.3. Seeing how that’s basically what you did in a way, since it was working fine until you updated, I’d say it’s a bug.
