I know this was months ago, but I’m going to post this here for anyone who wants the info. In 2.83+ There is an addon called Collection Manager.(It was introduce in 2.82 but the layer system wasn’t added until 2.83) This gives you the layers layout in the header/Toolsettings area. Also when you press M to move to collections you can create new collections give them names and to the left of the name you can assign the QCD or layer number from 1 to 20. Also most of the features in the layer manager are can be accessed through pressing M. This may make it easier to follow this. I also like to use it when I’m having to organize a file with a lot of objects that wasn’t organized.
