And if you are still thinking if you can do edge loops on both sides at the same time, no you can’t sadly. When you hit Control + R to make a loop cut, you can only do them one at a time. It’s more than enough though, I’ve never felt the need to make more than one cut at the same time. One cool little trick is that when you have a loop selected, if you go Control + Shift + R, it will split the loop in two, leaving the original one there.
