Are you overwhelmed by the project do you mean, or by the shelf you are making? I also think that the shelf looks great, as Omar mentioned if you added some bevels and then ‘beat it up’ a bit, it should look even better!
I get overwhelmed all the time when I’m modelling something. What helps me is just concentrate on smaller pieces at a time, and move on if something is a bit hard – then come back to it later with fresh eyes.
