The answer to the problem with funding open source software, is not funding open source software.
Funding is not the same as donations. Blender relies on donations to continue it’s evolution.
Donating to the Blender Foundation means we all get to use awesome free to use open source software.
Funding means we don’t. Funding means corporate entities wanting a slice of the pie. Meaning no more free to use open source software.
Collecting donations from organizations that do not or never will use Blender is not as easy as standing in the High Street shaking a bucket of coins.
It ultimately starts with us, Blender users. If every Blender user donated as little as the cost of a coffee, Blender would be in a far better place in terms of development.
The cost of a coffee once a year is nothing in comparison if dirty corporate hands got hold of it.
