    Homework submission – Week 1:

    I am glad I had some days off because it took me forever to get anything done. I am not sure if I did it correctly but I tried my best. 🙂

    Step 1: Handle & Pommel

    Thanks to some feedback here in the forum I was able to get it to look right.

    Step 2: Metal-protection above the handle

    This was very difficult to create. I first used a mirror modiefier but I had to get rid of it because it is not simply mirrored but also in the opposite direction. I also had a hard time to get it to look right when using a Subsurface Modifier or Smooth shading. I didnt try to add the text because I have not reached that level to get it done.

     

    Step 3: The blade went well and I was able to use what I learned in the cousre and the modeling of the treasure chest.

    Step 4: I created a singel vertex and create with extrude  a flat version of the decorative part on the blade. Once I had it I used different Modifiers to get it on the surface of the blade. (I have not done the learning flow for modeling so I was trying many things. I hope to get there after this course). 

    Step 5: I used the same method as on the blade to create the ornament on the handle. Once I had it 2D I was not able to get it right with the modifiers I have used previously. Instead I used an Array Modifier on the top ornament and then a Solidify Modifier to get it wider than the handle. Then I made a copy of the handle and cut out the elements with a Boolean Modifier. I applied all the modifiers and then extruded it out a bit over the handle and as a last step I marked all the hard edges.

    Thank you for your feedback. I am grateful for any tip and trick you guys can give me. If my approach for the ornaments on the blade/handle are not correct I would just leave them away for the rest of this course because I am not sure how much time I can invest next week and I still need to watch/create the Part 2/Texturing of the treasure chest. (I missed the part that we should watch the whole tutorial ahead of the course !!)
