Apologies for having replied in the wrong “subthread” when I tried to introduce myself. 

I’ve only used up a few weeks of my one-year subscription and I am grateful for the library of tutorials offered here.

 
Yet I have to give up: I don’t get Blender.
RANT: Why do I have to travel kilometres and kilometres to finish what should be “simple” workflows? No, I don’t use the keyboard when I use the mouse et vice versa. If I use the tablet/stylus, I simply don’t have a full-blown keyboard available. I use a 3dmouse and a normal mouse (or a stylus) for working in 3d. OR the keyboard. Software should adopt to users’ preferences, not the other way around.
Why is it (sometimes?) soooooo sloooow? Why is dealing with a mere 10 million points feeling like we’re 20 years back in time? Isn’t there a “static mesh mode” or some intelligent “only load geometry to memory within a certain boundary” or whatever to make “normal” mesh sizes at least manageable? Data I handle for clients goes up to hundreds of millions of points, I fully accept that a simple do-it-yourself tool can’t do that, perfectly fine. But a few million should be “standard”, we’re in the 21st century.
Why don’t the different “areas” (modules?) use the same UXP? It feels like “glued together” – as if I have to learn half a dozen programs instead of just one. Can’t there be an “overarching usability” defined? I would like to use Blender as a tool to get things done, yet it feels (to me) as if I need to learn a ton of things ONLY to use Blender in order to use Blender with the sole goal of using Blender.What I want to do is of no concern, using Blender FEELS like a means to an end, there’s only Blender.

I know I am ungrateful, I know Blender is considered “free”, but it is not: It costs your life-time, and it is too expensive in that respect. As an experimental environment where one can try out tricks, optimize algorithms, lab-out on ideas, Blender definitely is worth its sourcecode in -insert-fantasy-term-.  As a tool to get things done I don’t see how it could work for me with the … best way to put it is “chaotic” UXP it offers.

Sorry for loading this off here. I am happy to pay money to someone to take me by the hand and run me through a project, I don’t want my money back for cgcookie, but I only have a couple of years left on my life, I do not want to waste them learning something that is only good for itself …
