    TL;DR:
Had this account dormant for 10 years, now due to work reasons, I’m doing a crash course learning blender within a month. Nice to meet you all and wish me luck!

    Hey all!

My Name is Michael Durkopp.  Nice to meet you all!

I actually had this account for a long time, February 26th, 2012 according to my profile (10 YEARS !? O_o). But it was rarely used and didn’t signup for the membership. Mainly because at the time, I was using blender for fun and it wasn’t really serious as I was using it to help my brother with effects in 24 hour film jams. Or for stuff on my YouTube channel (I’ll post vids on where I used blender back in the day)

Though I lost interest due to going in IT for my career, but kept tabs on blender as I really did enjoy using and creating blender. (I didn’t follow through being a 3D artiest due to a horribly mismanaged summer boot camp from a technical college made me decide to not pursue it.)

Fast forward to just last week, I mentioned to my team in the company that I work for (I work as a lab tech for a certain M$ company as a vender) that I was getting a 3D scanner soon and they got excited about it. Somehow, one thing led to another and the team I’m working with decided to get cameras, lighting and other stuff with a Gamer PC that can run Blender like a champ for video production, mainly for ‘How to’ videos and visual documentation. Which is the absolute opposite of what I’m paid to do, but I didn’t care.

But then I realized that I need to have knowledge on a 3D program in order to make use of a 3D scanner. I remembered this account and immediately dusted it off and got a membership to essentially do a crash course in blender before the 3D scanner arrives in March.

So my teams plan is to scan servers and devices that we use and use them in animations or presentations to better illustrate said devices and servers. That and my team also works with HoloLens 2 and we want some objects to be available for use.

On top of that I will also model some items that we use, along with animating and other visual effects using blender. Along with unity and my own fun as well 😉

Wish me luck on my blender journey! And nice to meet you all!

Videos I worked with blender back in the day :
Pit of Greed ,72 hour film jam, Blender was used for the title card. It was supposed to be a brick wall, but somehow it looked more like a produce sack which worked out GREAT for the theme of the video.

Robot, This is OLD Jan 23, 2011. Blender was used for the title and uh….the “robot”. This was done when blender had yet to get camera tracking. At least reliably. Honestly, the fact that me and my brother had access to adobe aftereffects in high school and no knowledge in Blender at the time was a miracle that we pulled this off.  it’s cringe though.

Unused intro for my Youtube channel on my Google drive. Kinda to bad because I loved how it turned out.
