Those two are completely different. Although you can animate values in Geometry Nodes and thus create some simple ‘animation-effects’, it is being made (still in early development stage) for modeling and set dressing. The 2.92 splash screen was made with Geometry Nodes. That should give you an idea of what it can do (when you stretch GN to its ‘limits’…)
