Keep in mind the scale of the model influences the bevel amount. So you may have to apply the scale if you haven’t already. Think about as 1 meter of bevel on a 1 meter model is doable, but if you have a 1 meter amount of bevel on a 5 cm model, the bevel is going to blow it up.
