Enabling the Images As Planes Addon really shouldn’t be necessary. In the video, Jonathan doesn’t use it (the PNG gets imported as an Image (Empty), not as a Plane).
The Addon is great to have enabled, though. However, in Blender 4.2+ it is part of Blender itself (no longer an Addon) and is called Mesh Plane (under Add > Image).
