      Not sure why this is occuring.. It would be great if someone could provide a little help with this.. 

      It seems the cloth is crossing the base UV-Sphere.

        Yes it looks like the cloth is intersecting the sphere. You can try increasing A) the quality of the cloth collision (orange arrow) to 3 or 4 and / or B) doubling the distance (green arrow):
