Thinner Parts of Model are Darker

I know I’m not applying the material to the correct model, but this is a problem I seem to have very often with SSS. My thinner parts seem to be darker instead of lighter than the surrounding areas. Have you had this problem? I’ve messed around with all of the settings, but I can’t seem to fix it.
