Agreed with the above comments. There is nothing wrong with using the boolean workflow. But then you need to ask yourself “Do I know how to fix issues caused by the boolean operations?” If the answer is yes then boolean away! If the answer is no then you can still use boolean but you may have shading artifacts etc.
I use booleans a lot in my work but it helped understanding mesh modeling principles when I need to do bool cleanup work.
