Sorry Jonathan for blowing up this thread and sorry Martin, but I got things a bit wrong; Euler’s formula is for all (topologicall) spheres, not only those made of regular polygons. So blender’s UV Spheres and Icospheres and Suzanne’s eyes all conform to that formula. So shifting Vertices around to make a sphere out of irregular hexagons won’t beat the formula. (I saw a guy showing a sphere made of only hexagons, which confused me, but he was obviously lying about it; you can’t do mathematically impossible things in computer graphics!
Anyway, long story short, I haven’t proven yet that the ‘regular dented’ golfball is impossible, but I’ll get there, either proving it’s impossible, or showing that it can be done (and how).
