      Whenever I apply a Subdivision Surface modifier to the hat, it rounds out the top of it and I don’t get a sharp edge as shown in the video. What should I do?

        You need to add holding edges to the top, or any edge loop that you want to be sharp when smoothed. Starting about 5:40 in this video, watch how I use the bevel tool (CTRL + B) to create a sharp edge.
