Hey tristanross, it’s strange and I’m not sure what exactly is happening here, but try baking the particle simulation:

I’ve tested it with less samples and smaller resolution and rendered a sequence of 30 frames and with baking it gave the proper result.

Without baking it was messed up.

Make sure you are on Frame 1 when baking.
