Hi Kent, I hope this question makes sense: when the render layers are stacked on top of one another in the Node Editor viewport, does the first, or top, node input have to be the backdrop, or can it be another part of the composition? For example, in your composition, the first node is the white backdrop render layer.

No, it doesn’t have to be a white backdrop like my example in the video. It just has to be whatever is furthers back in your 3D scene. As in if I added the backdrop layer after the objects, then the objects wouldn’t be seen in the final composition.

So the layers need to be reconstructed from back to front.
