      Why use a bump node instead of plugging the textures into the displacement slot? Did you do this so your other materials that use true displacement from the cycles experimental settings would still work?

        The benefit of using a bump node is that you can have unique bump maps for each BSDF node. The displacement output is a global bump. Also the bump node has a strength parameter included where displacement inputs usually need a math node added to control the strength.

        Other than that it’s just a preferential choice as far as I know. Though now that we’re talking about it, I wonder if there’s any noticeably render time difference between the two…
