Hmm..I can’t reproduce your error. I guess try following along with the tutorial again and see if you missed a step somewhere.

I sort of had this issue just now – at first I missed that you had selected one edge of the original ear seam before doing shift-G, seam, select, mirror.

Hei, I have the same problem as the original question. I followed the tutorial step by step. Using version 2.79 here.

@songofeireann @sera Are you guys having issues with the “Live Unwrap” feature? If so here’s a gif of the setup in 2.79:
