Hey! You completely left out paper clay! I’ve tried it and have to say apart from that I have only tried water based clay. I like paper clay better though mainly because it is somewhat self supporting and it is easy to control hardness by mixing water to it. Also… You can make it permanent as long as it doesn’t get wet, and as long as you don’t paint it, it seems to not matter how long it has been laying around you can always reuse dried clay by simply adding water to it again. I’m just beginning and find t cool because if I complexity mess it up I just soak it over a night and restart.

Hey there! Sorry about the late reply, somehow I didn’t get a message for this question!
You are correct, paper clay is not one of the mediums in the videos. That’s mostly because the learning curve with this may be a bit steep for some people, and it does not lend itself freely to various sizes.

The oil-based or water based clays are a bit easier to handle for beginners, especially since the oil-based clays really can’t be mishandled, and there is no drying out.
However, I strongly advocate for anyone using whichever medium they feel most comfortable with, even if they decide to use pottery clay (also a range of clays I did not include here because they are usually coarser and not well suited for smaller, detailed figurines).

If you have pictures of your work, please feel free to share them on the forum: http://community.cgcookie.com

I can’t edit, so, me again. Thx for the info! After reading your replay I feel encourage to try water based clay, since it is easy to find around here.
