The extra curves in 2.79 got several new predefined curves, including the 10 curly curves. Also, it has a Add Bevel/Taper which will take the selected curve, add a new curve and set that as the bevel or taper (whichever you choose) of the selected curve and gives the new curve a name based on the type you selected (bevel or taper) and the name of the original curve — making it faster and easier to set up the bevels and tapers!
