Welcome to my world 😀 But no, I understand. You can certainly pait directly on to a baked map, just like you can draw with a pen on top of printed document. Baking is just a way to project a certain set of pixels on to the canvas. Painting is a by-hand method of projecting pixels on to the canvas. I hope that helps..
