A few newb questions on printing tests.

Don’t worry, Porter is more than likely thinking, ooohh questions, nice, I explain myself too well on my courses, and so people don’t usually ask too much stuff, so now I get to be like the master of printing and impart my knowledge even further. I bet those will be his thoughts exactly. You’ll see.

I totally see why you want to print these tests to know what your printer is capable of. But does it make sense to test it with different types of filaments? Would the materials, slicer settings make a difference on the outcome of bridges and overhangs, or even tolerance?

Every different type of fillament will print differently and require some “dialing in” before you can get consistent results. You will then also have issues arise with the nozzle from time to time that will require some recalibration as you try to troubleshoot. 

Regarding the overhang tests, I see no benefit in print the more complex test. It looks cool though. 

Regarding the bridge test, looks awesome, I would use that one no problem. It doesn’t take a lot of testing to start to get a sense of what your printer is capable, and no matter how much testing we do, we will have failed prints. I learn just as much about my printers capacities from the failed prints as I do from the test files.
