When I try to write or use grease pencil it changes between the crosshairs and the pencil icon. It throws off my writing and puts my line in a place slightly off from where I intended it to be. Is there a way to change the settings so when I have grease pencil selected it stays as the pencil icon?

        Hey @wendy10698,

When I click on the annotate tool from the left tool bar, my cursor changes to the pen icon, then when I write it is still a pen icon.

Are you using a pen and tablet? If so, check the preferences > Input > Tablet > Tablet API, try changing this to Automatic if it is not already, or try a different setting.
I’ve heard this can change some behaviours, it depends what tablet you have to what the setting is.

Also, do you have any add-ons installed? Other than Blender included add-ons.
They may also change the behaviour.

And finally, what version of Blender are you using?

I get bugs like that sometimes, not with grease pencil, just normal going from object mode to edit mode and vice versa, the cursor stays as if I was in edit mode. After I close and open it goes away though. Is your problem persisting even if you re-download Blender?

I am using a Wacom tablet. it was already set to Automatic and changing the preferences didn’t work.
What I’m after is, when I’m in annotate mode, I want to the crosshairs to either stay has crosshairs or as the pen. Rather then switching between to the two when I’m writing.

It’s always been this way even in previous versions of Blender.

Yeah, I think I heard about this problem before from someone, but I can’t remember who, where or when and what the solution is…

I can not reproduce it with Wacom or Xencelabs…(both on Linux)…Tried several versions as well

I can imagine how annoying that must be!

Sometimes these quirks can happen when installing a new version of Blender and choosing to load previous version settings on the splash screen.
It may be worth trying a re-install of Blender.

Like Spikey, I think I remember someone with a similar problem. I believe re-installing fixed it, if I remember correctly.

what version of Blender are you using?
The reason I ask is, If you are worried about updating to a new version and opening a file you are working on,
There is no need to worry. If you are using 3.6.2 and update to 3.6.4, for example, there is minimal difference. The last number in the sequence is only an indication of an update for bug fixes, Blender UI and everything else remains unchanged.
