        HI Erik @erikitect,

        At that moment it is connected to the Material Output (through an invisible Viewer Node); you can directly see the output of the Colorramp Node in the Viewport. Use the Node Wrangler shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+LMB with the Colorramp selected.

          Thank you. I eventually figured out it was connected to the viewer node, but how to use the node wrangler shortcut is new information to me.

            And yet people complain that every time there is a tutorial, over and over teachers explain how to enable the Node Wrangler. I’ve always been a supported of that getting explained a lot, doesn’t matter how much because you don’t know who is looking that doesn’t know about the addon and they can get confused.
