How to get around the zoom + pan limit that happens?

At some point, when I zoom in or pan around the view navigation, it slows down and stops.

Although I’ve been able to get around it by using walk navigation and other stuff, I would really like to know if there is a way to to keep zooming in without the limit?

You can press the numpad period key to zoom to the selected object. Usually that is enough, but I suppose if you wanted to zoom REALLY far in you could make a very small object and zoom to that.
