        Homework submission-week 1-fence

        @theluthier

        Definitely over-estimated my blender skills and should have spent more time. But this team project is definitely a blast as it gives a better and clear direction to improve my skills.

            Just a quick reminder. We still need a name for our team? What’s your vote?

              @duerer Thanks for the reminder. The first option Shabby Chic sounds fun.

                  Overestimated or not, your fence section looks great @richardyi! This is exactly how I would structure it in the sense of minimal pieces needed to assemble the whole fence. Once the terrain is finished, you can easily assemble the whole thing accordingly. Nice work! You’ve earned full points from me.

                  One stylistic note I was going to add was that the vertical boards are massive. Way chunkier than any fence I’ve seen. But then I checked the art and sure enough they’re kinda huge. Almost the same size of the door:

                  @harbinger_ua How do you feel about us shrinking the fence breadth down to more normal proportions?

                    @theluthier sure, we can do that. Just don’t go too hard on them as they still need to be a bit exaggerated to fit the style.

                      Thank you Kent for your nice words. Great catch. You have very sharp eyes. I didn’t notice that. The fence is indeed huge compared to the real ones.

                          @theluthier A little slow. Thank you for checking in. Here is what I did by watching last week’s video and your Fundamentals of Digital Sculpting course. I also synced my WIP in google drive.

                            @richardyi I very much like what you’ve sculpted 👍! I’m wondering how this will look when it’s assembled to a full fence 😀.

                              No worries on being “behind” – Several people have needed more time to catch up. In fact week 4 is intentionally a buffer week for everyone to catch up 👌

                              You’ve made solid progress with you sculpted wooden accents! Some advice I want to offer is tightening and lengthening your grain crevices as well as adding a few more to balance the look. I would also subdivide higher 1 or 2 levels to avoid the polygonal artifacts showing up in the sculpt.

                              You may find this GIF helpful: A similar wood sculpt example, before and after tweaks:

                                @theluthier Thank you for your great advice. Let me try to use the reference image provided in the google drive. Now I understand the importance of the high-quality reference image you provided. Lol

                                  @theluthier Last week’s home is challenging. I need more time to do it….

                                  Here is what I got for the fence. I beveled the wood in last version, which made the edge a little too smooth. I did not bevel it this time.
